Lahore ranked among world’s safest cities in 2025 global safety report

The report places Pakistan's cultural capital at 37th in the Global Crime Index and 63rd in safety rankings, outperforming major global cities like New York, London

Lahore has achieved a historic milestone by being ranked among the world’s safest cities in the 2025 Crime and Safety Index released by global database Numbeo. The report places Pakistan’s cultural capital at 37th in the Global Crime Index and 63rd in safety rankings, outperforming major global cities like New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Istanbul, and Washington DC.

The transformation follows a dramatic 50% reduction in overall crime, with reported incidents dropping from 67,585 (April 2023-2024) to 34,091 (April 2024-2025). Violent crimes saw even sharper declines – robberies and murders fell by 64%, street snatching by 42%, and vehicle thefts by 33-39%. The improvements stem from a data-driven policing strategy that combined hotspot surveillance, internal accountability (400+ officers disciplined), and merit-based promotions.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran credited the success to “political support and technology-led policing,” noting that four station house officers were jailed for misconduct. The city’s safety perception score now surpasses Mexico City, Dhaka, New Delhi and Tehran in Numbeo’s crowdsourced index, which analyzes real-time resident feedback from 250+ global cities.

“This isn’t just about statistics – it’s changing Lahore’s global narrative,” officials stated, highlighting the ranking’s potential to boost tourism and investment. With continued reforms, authorities aim to position Lahore among the world’s top 20 safest cities, marking a new era for urban security in South Asia.
